Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is
the Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy - an energy that is all
around us. |
What is Reiki?
Reiki evolved in Japan from the studies of Dr
Mikao Usui (1865-1926) who developed this system from ancient
teachings after many years of meditation, study and research.
He spent
most his life practising and teaching Reiki and because there is no belief system
attached to Reiki anyone can receive it. The only requirement is the
desire to be healed. |

| Receiving Reiki
Receiving Reiki is a
very simple process.
The
recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If you are unable to lie
down Reiki can be given in a sitting position, the main thing
is that you as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any
clothing as Reiki energy will pass through anything - even plaster
casts.
The practitioner gently places
their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the
whole body.
The
well-being of the whole person is considered rather than specific
symptoms. A full session usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position
held for
several minutes. |
Which
conditions can Reiki help?
Reiki
encourages and supports positive personal change such as: improving
your diet, getting more rest, exercise or leisure time, sleeping better
and may assist in reducing the need for alcohol and tobacco.
In some cases such as terminal
illness, Reiki may instil a sense of peace and acceptance
during the time remaining.
